AC Repair & Duct Cleaning in Germantown, TN
Germantown is east of Memphis along Poplar Ave, bounded roughly by the Wolf River on the north and the Collierville line on the east, with Germantown Pkwy, Forest Hill-Irene Rd and Poplar Pike as the main cross streets. From Southaven we take I-55 to I-240 and come out Poplar or Bill Morris Pkwy (385), usually 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic.
The housing is more uniform than Memphis: mostly 1970s to 2000s two-storey brick homes on larger lots, with Old Germantown and the streets near the Poplar and Germantown Rd crossing older, and some newer infill toward Thornwood. The defining HVAC fact here is the dual system. A great many Germantown homes run one system downstairs and one upstairs, which means two condensers, two air handlers in different places (often one in the attic and one in a closet or garage) and twice the things to maintain.
We see a lot of mismatched pairs where one side was replaced and the other was not. A tune-up on both and honest math on the older one is usually how we start.
What Germantown homes usually need
Largely 1975 to 2005 two-storey brick homes with two systems, an attic air handler for upstairs and a closet or garage air handler for downstairs, gas furnaces with AC or dual-fuel heat pumps, and original duct designs with long runs. Older 1960s and 70s ranches near the Poplar corridor sit on crawlspaces; newer infill near Thornwood and Forest Hill-Irene Rd is 2010s construction with higher-efficiency equipment.
Mismatched dual systems
One side new, the other 20 years old. The old one fails in July and the question is whether to match the new one or limp along. We show the numbers either way.
Upstairs too hot
Long attic runs, an undersized upstairs return and a hot attic add up. Duct sealing, a return fix or a zoning change usually beats a bigger condenser.
Attic condensate over finished space
An upstairs air handler over a bedroom ceiling needs a working float switch and a clean secondary pan. We check both on every visit.
Pollen and tree debris on condensers
Mature trees in Kimbrough Woods, Farmington and Dogwood Grove dump pollen, cottonwood fluff and leaves into outdoor coils every spring; a coil cleaning brings capacity back.
Smart thermostats on older two-stage systems
Plenty of homes are adding smart thermostats to late-90s equipment. Missing common wires and mis-set staging cause short cycling; a correct install avoids it.

Do you serve both Germantown ZIPs?+
Yes, 38138 and 38139, from Old Germantown and the Poplar corridor out to Forest Hill-Irene Rd and the Collierville line.
I have two systems. If one fails, do I replace both?+
Usually not at the same time unless both are past 15 years and you want matching warranties. We price the failed side as a repair and as a replacement, note the age and condition of the other, and let you choose. New systems run $6,500 to $18,000 each depending on size and efficiency.
What does duct cleaning cost for a two-system house?+
A single-system home up to about 12 registers is $399 to $699. Two-system Germantown homes are quoted in writing before we start, since register count and run length vary a lot. Dryer-vent cleaning is $129 to $199 on the same visit.
Are you licensed to work in Tennessee?+
Yes. We are licensed in Tennessee as well as Mississippi, and Germantown has been on our routes for years.
How soon can you come?+
Same-day or next-day windows on most weekdays, about 30 to 40 minutes from the shop. Emergency and after-hours service is available.
Who handles the permit for a new furnace in Germantown?+
We do. Germantown permits and inspections go through the Memphis and Shelby County Office of Construction Code Enforcement, and we pull the mechanical permit as the licensed contractor.
